How to Migrate from Smile.io

Written by Kris James

Moving from Smile.io to Mage Loyalty? This guide walks you through importing your existing customer data so your members keep their points and VIP tier when you make the switch.

What gets imported

  • Points balance (current balance for each customer)

  • VIP tier

  • Birthday

  • First and last name

Before you start

  • IMPORTANT: Set up your VIP tiers in Mage first. If your Smile customers are in tiers, create matching tiers in Mage under VIP settings before importing. The tier names in your Smile CSV need to match the names in Mage, otherwise those customers will be imported without a tier.

Step 1. Export your customers from Smile

Log in to Smile.io and export your customers as a CSV. You want the standard customer export that includes points balance, VIP tier, date of birth, and names.

Step 2. Upload the CSV to Mage

  1. In your Mage admin, go to Settings.

  2. Click Migrate from Smile.

  3. Drag your Smile CSV into the upload box (or click to browse).

  4. Click Start import.

Step 3. Watch the progress

The import runs in the background. You'll see a progress bar showing how many customers have been processed. Depending on the size of your customer list, this can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour. You can leave the page and come back, the import will keep running.

After the import

Once it's done, you'll see a summary under Migration history showing how many customers were imported, how many were skipped, and a breakdown by VIP tier. Click Details on any completed run to see the full report.

If you see Unrecognised VIP tiers in the report, it means your Smile CSV had tier names that don't exist in Mage yet.

Re-running an import

If you upload the same CSV twice, points are added on top of the existing balance, not replaced. Only re-run an import if you have an export with new customers. If you're not sure, reach out to support before re-importing.
