Loop Returns Integration

Connect Loop Returns to Mage so customers can start a return from their account sidebar.

Written by Kris James

Connect Loop Returns to Mage so your customers can start a return straight from their account. Once set up, a "Start a return" link appears on eligible orders in the account sidebar and sends customers into your Loop returns flow with their order details already filled in.

Before you start

You need:

  • A Loop Returns account that is active on your Shopify store

  • A Mage Starter plan or above

Step 1: Connect Loop Returns

First, link your Loop Returns account to Mage using an API key from Loop.

  1. In your Loop admin, generate an API key. Go to Returns Management, then Tools and integrations, then Developer Tools. When you create the key, enable the Orders and Returns scopes (these are the permissions Loop gives the key).

  2. Copy the API key.

  3. In your Mage admin, go to the Integrations page, find the Loop Returns card, and click Manage.

  4. Paste your API key and click Connect Loop Returns.

  5. Mage checks the key with Loop. Once confirmed, the card shows as Connected along with the date you connected.

Step 2: Turn on returns in the sidebar

Next, tell your account sidebar to send customers to Loop.

  1. In your Mage admin, go to Account Sidebar, then Settings, then Orders.

  2. Turn on Enable returns.

  3. Under Returns destination, select Loop Returns. This option only becomes available once the integration is connected.

  4. Save.

That is it. Eligible orders in the account sidebar now show a "Start a return" link that opens your Loop returns flow.

What your customers see

On an eligible order, customers see a "Start a return" link in their account sidebar. It opens your Loop returns page with their order already filled in, so they do not need to look anything up.

If a customer already has a return on the order, the sidebar shows its current status and links to the Loop status page so they can follow it.

FAQ

The Loop Returns option is greyed out in my sidebar settings

This means the integration is not connected yet. Connect Loop Returns on the Integrations page first, then the option becomes available in your sidebar settings.

Why does the return link not appear on some orders?

The return link only shows on orders that still have items eligible for a return. Orders with nothing left to return will not show the link.

Where do customers manage or track a return?

In Loop. Customers complete and track their returns in your Loop returns flow. If the customer already has a return on the order, the sidebar shows its current status and links straight to the Loop status page.

Does this change how my returns work?

No. This integration simply sends customers to your existing Loop returns process. Loop continues to handle returns exactly as it does today.

Do I have to use Loop for returns?

No. The Returns destination in your sidebar settings can be set to Shopify, a custom link, or Loop Returns. Choose whichever suits your store.

What happens if I disconnect Loop Returns?

The sidebar stops sending customers to Loop, and the Loop Returns option in your sidebar settings becomes unavailable until you reconnect. If you disconnect, set your Returns destination to another option.

Disconnecting Loop Returns

  1. Go to the Integrations page.

  2. Find the Loop Returns card and click Manage.

  3. Click Disconnect and confirm.
