Wallet Pass - Overview & Setup

What the Wallet Pass is, how to enable and design it, and how to get it onto your customers' phones.

What is the Wallet Pass?

The Wallet Pass is a digital loyalty card your customers add to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. It shows their live points balance, VIP tier, and how many rewards they have ready to redeem, and it updates on its own every time they earn or spend.

Because the pass lives on the lock screen, it keeps your programme in front of customers without an email or an app. You can also send push notifications to pass holders, and surface a message when they walk near one of your stores.

Wallet Pass is available only on specific Growth & Enterprise plans.


Enabling the Wallet Pass

  1. From your Shopify admin, open the Mage Loyalty app.

  2. In the left menu, click Wallet Pass.

  3. On the overview page, click Customise to open the pass builder.

  4. At the top of the builder, toggle Wallet Pass on.

  5. Click Save.

The toggle alone does not save the change. Always click Save before leaving the builder.


Designing your pass

The pass builder has a live preview on the right and two tabs on the left: Design and Settings. Use the Apple and Google toggle above the preview to check how the pass looks on each platform.

What it controls

Push icon

The small icon shown next to your push notifications. Square PNG, 90 x 90 px.

VIP tier styling

Optional. Give each VIP tier its own artwork and colours. Off uses a single design for everyone.

Pass artwork

Your Apple logo, Google logo, and the banner image shown across the top of the pass.

Colours

The pass background (theme) colour and the text colour.

Labels

Rename the stat labels (Balance, Tier, Rewards, Member, Member since). The values stay dynamic.

Back of pass

Text blocks shown on the back of the pass. Emails and phone numbers become tappable.

Pass links

Buttons on the back of the pass that link customers to your store, rewards page, or any URL.

Settings tab

  • Barcode - choose what the QR code on the pass encodes: the customer's referral share link, or their email for POS lookup.

  • Pass messaging - the welcome message shown in the pass's "Latest update" field when a customer first adds the pass.

Click Save when you are done. Design changes apply to every pass automatically, so existing pass holders pick them up too.


Getting the pass onto customers' phones

Once the pass is enabled, there are two ways to distribute it.

Add to Wallet link

On the Wallet Pass overview page you will find an Add to Wallet link. Click Copy and share it anywhere: an email, an SMS, a thank-you page, or a link in your store. When a customer opens it, we detect their phone and offer the right pass for Apple or Google.

Account Sidebar

If you use the Mage Account Sidebar, customers can add the pass straight from there. This needs the Mage Loyalty app embed enabled on your live theme.

Tip

Passes update automatically as customers earn and redeem points, so there is nothing to re-send. Once a customer has the pass, it stays current on its own.
