How to Set Up the Omnisend Integration

Connect Omnisend to Mage Loyalty to use your loyalty program data in segments, automations and campaigns

Written by Kris James

What does the integration do?

The Omnisend integration syncs your Mage Loyalty program data to your Omnisend contacts and sends loyalty events to Omnisend. This allows you to:

  • View loyalty data on contacts - See points balances, VIP tiers and more directly in Omnisend

  • Create targeted segments - Build segments based on loyalty data like "Customers with 100+ points" or "Gold tier members"

  • Build automations - Trigger emails and SMS when customers earn points, redeem rewards or change VIP tiers

  • Personalize campaigns - Use loyalty data in your messages to make them more relevant

Customer data is matched by email address. Mage only writes its own Mage properties to your contacts.

The Omnisend integration is available on the Essential plan and above.

How to connect Mage Loyalty with Omnisend

Connecting Omnisend takes a few minutes and uses an Omnisend API key:

  1. In Omnisend, go to Store Settings → API

  2. Create an API key with access to Contacts and Events, or copy an existing one

  3. In Mage Loyalty, navigate to Integrations → Omnisend

  4. Paste the key into the Omnisend API Key field

  5. Click Save API Key

Mage checks the key with Omnisend before saving it. If you see "Omnisend rejected this API key", check that you copied the full key and that it has access to Contacts and Events.

That's it! Each customer's loyalty data syncs to Omnisend whenever their points, tier or rewards change. To stop syncing, click Disconnect on the Omnisend integration page.

Using loyalty data in Omnisend

Once synced, you can use these properties to:

  1. Create segments: Target customers based on points balance, tier or enrollment date

  2. Personalize messages: Include loyalty data like [[contact.custom_properties.magePointsBalance]] in your campaigns and automations

  3. Build conditional splits: Send different messages based on VIP tier or points balance

What events are fired and how to toggle them

The integration can send the following loyalty events to Omnisend, which you can use to trigger automations:

Event Name

When It Fires

Points Awarded

When points are added to a customer's balance, either immediately or after the approval waiting period has passed.

Points Pending

When a tiered bonus campaign awards flat bonus points. Off by default.

Photo Challenge Rejected

If your program runs on store credit, Points Awarded, Points Pending and Points Expiry Soon are sent as Store Credit Awarded, Store Credit Pending and Store Credit Expiry Soon. The properties on each event are listed in Omnisend Customer Properties & Events.

Managing event settings

You can toggle which events are sent to Omnisend at any time:

  1. Navigate to Integrations → Omnisend in Mage Loyalty

  2. Scroll to the Event Settings section (visible when connected)

  3. Use the checkboxes to enable or disable each event type

  4. Changes are saved automatically

Note: Disabled events are not sent to Omnisend, so only enable the events you plan to use in your automations.

Sending a test event

Once connected, use the Send Test Event section on the Omnisend integration page to send any event with sample data to an email address of your choice. Omnisend only lists an event as an automation trigger after it has been received once, so sending a test event lets you start building before real events come in.

FAQ

Why don't some contacts have Mage properties yet?

Mage sends a customer's properties the next time their points, tier or rewards change. Customers with no loyalty activity since you connected Omnisend will not have them yet.

Why was my API key rejected?

Omnisend did not accept the key. Make sure you copied the whole key from Store Settings → API, and that the key has access to Contacts and Events.
