After installing Mage Loyalty from the Shopify App Store, there is one essential step before anything will appear on your storefront. Enabling the Mage Loyalty app embed in your Shopify theme.
Without this step, the Account Sidebar, Rewards Widget, and all other on-site displays will not be visible to your customers, even if everything is configured correctly inside the app.
This takes less than two minutes to complete.
Why This Step is Required
Shopify uses a system called App Embeds to connect apps to your storefront theme. For security and performance reasons, Shopify requires store owners to explicitly enable each app embed. It does not activate automatically on installation.
The app embed is what connects Mage Loyalty to your live theme
Without it, no Mage Loyalty content will render on your storefront
Enabling it does not change your theme design, it simply activates the connection
You only need to do this once per theme
🚨 Important
If you switch to a new theme after setting up Mage Loyalty, you will need to enable the app embed again on the new theme. App embed settings are per-theme, not per-store.
Enabling the App Embed
Step 1 ~ Go to Online Store > Themes
From your Shopify admin, click Online Store in the left menu.
Click Themes.
Find your current live theme. It will be marked as Current theme.
Click Edit theme on the right side of the theme card.
ℹ️ Note
Make sure you are editing your current live theme. The one marked as Current theme. Enabling the app embed on a theme in your library (not live) will have no effect on your storefront.
Step 2 ~ Open App Embeds
In the Theme editor, look at the left sidebar.
Click the App Embeds icon. It looks like four squares arranged in a grid (Screenshot below). It is the third icon from the top in the left panel.
✅ Tip
If you cannot see the left sidebar icons, make sure you are in the Theme editor (click Edit theme), not the Theme customiser section. The App Embeds panel is only accessible from the Theme editor.
Step 3 ~ Enable Mage Loyalty
In the App embeds panel, find Mage — Mage Loyalty in the list.
Toggle the switch to the on position (it turns dark when active).
Click Save in the top right corner of the Theme editor.
ℹ️ Note
The toggle must be dark (enabled) and you must click Save before leaving the Theme editor. If you close the tab without saving, the app embed will not be activated.
What Happens After Enabling
Once the app embed is enabled and saved:
Any warning message about the app embed in your Mage Loyalty dashboard will disappear.
Mage Loyalty is now connected to your storefront theme and ready to be configured.
You can now set up your Account Sidebar, Reward Widget and Loyalty program inside the Mage Loyalty app. Each needs to be configured separately before it will appear on your storefront.
✅ Tip
After saving, return to the Mage Loyalty app to continue setting up your loyalty program, Account Sidebar, and Rewards Widget. The app embed enables the connection, but each feature still needs to be configured inside Mage Loyalty before it will appear on your storefront.
Troubleshooting
The app embed toggle is on but nothing is showing on the storefront
Confirm you clicked Save in the Theme editor after toggling the embed on. The toggle alone is not enough, the save is required.
Make sure you enabled the embed on your current live theme, not a theme in your library.
Try opening the storefront in an incognito or private browser window to rule out caching.
I cannot find the App Embeds icon in the Theme editor
The App Embeds icon is the third icon from the top in the left sidebar of the Theme editor, it looks like four squares ( ⊞ ).
If you do not see it, confirm you are in the Theme editor (accessed via Edit theme) and not another Shopify admin page.
Some older Shopify theme versions may display the sidebar differently. If you are still unable to find it, contact the Mage Loyalty team via the support chat for direct assistance.
I switched themes and Mage Loyalty has stopped working
When you publish a new theme, the app embed needs to be enabled again on the new theme.
Go to Online Store > Themes, click Edit theme on your new live theme, and repeat the steps above.
The Mage Loyalty app embed is not appearing in the App embeds list
Confirm Mage Loyalty is installed on your store. Go to Apps in your Shopify admin and check it appears in your installed apps list.
