When to Use This Block

  • Announce a new product or collection launch

  • Promote a limited-time sale or offer

  • Drive traffic to a specific page — subscriptions, bundles, or a campaign landing page

  • Highlight a bonus points campaign while it is running

  • Showcase your brand story or loyalty program benefits to new visitors

✅ Tip

The Advertisement block sits inside the sidebar, where customers are already engaged with your brand. It is a high-attention placement. Use it for your most important current promotion rather than a static evergreen message.

How to Configure the Advertisement Block

  1. From your Shopify admin, open the Mage Loyalty app.

  2. In the left menu, click Account Sidebar.

  3. Click the Blocks tab.

  4. Find the Advertisement block and click on it to expand its settings.

  5. Make sure the block toggle is turned on.

  6. Upload your image, fill in the title and description, and optionally add a link.

  7. Click Save.

Field Reference

Field

What It Does

Required?

Advertisement Image

The promotional image displayed at the top of the block. Uploaded directly from your computer.

Recommended

Title

A short headline for your promotion — displayed beneath the image in bold.

Optional

Description

Supporting text beneath the title. Use this to add context, urgency, or a short call to action.

Optional

Link

A URL the customer is taken to when they click the banner. Can be a relative path (e.g. /pages/sale) or a full URL.

Optional

ℹ️ Note

All four fields are optional, but for best results use at least an image and a title together. A banner with no image and no title will display as an empty block in the sidebar.

Image Guidance

The advertisement image is the most visually prominent part of this block. A well-chosen image makes the banner feel intentional and on-brand.

Recommended image specs

  • Format: JPG or PNG

  • Aspect ratio: landscape or square, tall portrait images may be cropped depending on the sidebar width

  • File size: under 1MB for fast loading

  • Resolution: at least 800px wide to avoid looking blurry on retina screens

✅ Tip

Use an image that already has your text or offer baked in, for example: a pre-designed campaign banner from your marketing assets. This reduces how much you need to write in the Title and Description fields, and gives you more control over the final look.

Using the Link Field

The Link field makes the entire advertisement block clickable. When a customer clicks anywhere on the banner, image, title, or description, they are taken to the URL you enter.

  • Use a relative path for internal pages: /collections/new-arrivals

  • Use a full URL for external pages: https://yourbrand.com/campaign

  • Leave this field blank if you want the block to be display-only with no click destination

ℹ️ Note

The link opens in the same browser tab by default. If you want to link to an external page and keep your store open, consider using your store's own domain or a page within your Shopify store.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

⚠️ Common Mistake

Uploading a very large image file: oversized images slow down the sidebar loading time. Keep images under 1MB and resize before uploading.

⚠️ Common Mistake

Using a tall portrait image: the sidebar has a fixed width and portrait images may be cropped or display awkwardly. Landscape or square images work best.

⚠️ Common Mistake

Leaving an outdated promotion live: the Advertisement block is easy to forget once it is set up. If you run a time-limited campaign, remember to update or disable the block once the promotion ends.

⚠️ Common Mistake

Adding a link but not testing it: always click through the link on your live storefront after saving to confirm it points to the right destination.

Troubleshooting

The image is not displaying in the sidebar

  • Confirm the image was uploaded successfully. The block settings should show a thumbnail preview of the uploaded image.

  • Check the file format. JPG and PNG are supported. Other formats may not display correctly.

  • If the image appears broken on the storefront, try re-uploading a smaller version of the file and saving again.

The link is not working when customers click the banner

  • Check that the link is formatted correctly. Internal links should start with / (e.g. /pages/sale). External links should include https://.

  • Test the link yourself by clicking the banner on your live storefront after saving.

The block is enabled but showing as empty in the sidebar

  • If no image, title, or description has been added, the block may render as blank. Add at least an image and a title to give the block visible content.

  • Confirm the block toggle is turned on and that you clicked Save after making changes.
