A multiplier campaign boosts what customers earn from your earning rules for a set period, for example 2x on purchases over a weekend. It is a way to drive orders around a launch, holiday or quiet week without discounting.
There are two kinds of bonus campaign. A Multiplier campaign multiplies the earning rate, which this guide covers. A Tiered campaign gives a flat bonus when an order reaches a spend threshold. See Tiered Bonus Campaign.
How to create a multiplier campaign
From your Shopify admin, open the Mage Loyalty app and click Loyalty.
In the Bonus Campaigns section, click Create Campaign.
Enter a Campaign Name. Customers do not see this.
Under Campaign Type, choose Multiplier.
In Multiplier Rules, set a multiplier for each rule you want to boost. Rules left at 1x are not part of the campaign.
Set the start and end date and time on the right.
Check the Summary panel, then click Create Campaign.
The campaign starts and ends automatically at the times you set, in your store's timezone.
Campaign settings
Setting | What it does |
Multiplier Rules | A multiplier for each active earning rule. Purchase at 2x doubles purchase earnings. A signup reward of 10 at 2x becomes 20. Most campaigns boost Purchase only. |
Product & Collection Bonus | Optional. Limits the purchase multiplier to specific products or collections. Everything else in the order earns at the normal rate. |
Required Products | Under Advanced Settings. Optional. The whole order only qualifies for the campaign if it contains at least one of these products. |
Override VIP tier multipliers | Under Advanced Settings. By default a customer's VIP multiplier stacks with the campaign, so a 1.5x Gold member on a 2x campaign earns 3x. Tick this to give every customer the same campaign rate regardless of tier. Not shown on store credit programs. |
Start and end | When the campaign runs, in your store's timezone. |
Product & Collection Bonus and Required Products work at different levels. The first controls which items earn the bonus rate. The second controls whether the order qualifies at all. You can use both together.
Campaign status
Draft: saved but not scheduled. You can keep editing.
Upcoming: scheduled and will start automatically. You can still edit.
Active: running now. Active campaigns cannot be edited. To change one, end it and create a new campaign.
Ended: finished and kept in your campaign history.
Only one campaign can run at a time. Use the filter in the Bonus Campaigns section to see upcoming, active and past campaigns, and open a campaign's menu to edit or delete it.
Common mistakes to avoid
Leaving every rule at 1x. The campaign saves but boosts nothing. The Summary panel warns you when no rule is above 1x.
Forgetting VIP tiers stack. A 3x campaign can mean 6x for a top-tier member. Decide up front whether to override tier multipliers.
Not telling customers. A campaign nobody knows about creates no urgency. Announce it by email or SMS before it starts.
Troubleshooting
The campaign is Upcoming but the start time has passed
Check the start time against your store's timezone, not your own.
Refresh the Loyalty page. If it is still Upcoming, contact us in live chat.
Customers are not earning the boosted rate
Check the rule has a multiplier above 1x in the campaign.
Check the order was placed inside the campaign window.
If you set Product & Collection Bonus or Required Products, check the order includes qualifying items.
I cannot create a campaign because the dates conflict
Only one campaign can be active at a time. Change or delete the overlapping campaign first.
