A tiered campaign gives customers a flat bonus when a single order reaches a spend threshold, on top of what they normally earn from the Purchase rule. For example: spend $100 for a 200 bonus, spend $250 for a 600 bonus.
There are two kinds of bonus campaign. A Tiered campaign gives a flat bonus at spend thresholds, which this guide covers. A Multiplier campaign multiplies the earning rate. See Multiplier Bonus Campaign.
How to create a tiered campaign
From your Shopify admin, open the Mage Loyalty app and click Loyalty.
In the Bonus Campaigns section, click Create Campaign.
Enter a Campaign Name. Customers do not see this.
Under Campaign Type, choose Tiered.
In Spend Tiers, enter a spend threshold and the bonus for it. Click Add tier for more.
Set the start and end date and time on the right.
Check the Summary panel, then click Create Campaign.
The campaign starts and ends automatically at the times you set, in your store's timezone.
How spend tiers work
Highest tier only. An order earns the single highest tier it reaches. Tiers do not add together. A $260 order with tiers at $100 and $250 earns the $250 bonus only.
One order at a time. The threshold must be reached in a single order. Two separate orders do not combine.
Items only. Spend is measured on the products in the order after discounts. Tax and shipping do not count.
Flat bonus. The bonus is exactly what you set. VIP tier multipliers do not apply to it. They still apply to the customer's normal purchase earnings.
Same approval time as purchases. If your Purchase rule holds earnings for a number of days, the bonus is held for the same period.
Optional settings
Setting | What it does |
Product & Collection Bonus | Only spend on the chosen products or collections counts toward the threshold. For example, "Spend $200 on outerwear for a 300 bonus". |
Required Products | Under Advanced Settings. The order only qualifies if it contains at least one of these products. |
Refunds
The bonus is all or nothing. On a partial refund, the customer keeps the full bonus if the order still reaches the threshold, and loses it entirely if it drops below. On a full refund the bonus is removed along with the normal purchase earnings.
Campaign status
Draft: saved but not scheduled. You can keep editing.
Upcoming: scheduled and will start automatically. You can still edit.
Active: running now. Active campaigns cannot be edited. To change one, end it and create a new campaign.
Ended: finished and kept in your campaign history.
Only one campaign can run at a time.
Common mistakes to avoid
Expecting tiers to stack or orders to add up. Only the highest tier reached in one order is paid.
Counting tax and shipping. An order that only passes the threshold once tax and shipping are added does not qualify.
Troubleshooting
A customer did not receive the bonus
Check the item subtotal reached a threshold, excluding tax and shipping.
Check the order was placed inside the campaign window.
If you limited the campaign to products or collections, check enough of the order was on those items.
If your Purchase rule has an approval time, the bonus is pending until it passes.
