Subscription Milestone Earning Rule

How to reward customers once a subscription reaches a set number of payments.

Written by Kris James

The Subscription Milestone rule rewards a customer once a subscription reaches a set number of successful payments, for example after their 6th monthly delivery.

Your subscription app must be connected first. Mage works with Loop, Recharge, Skio and other apps built on Shopify's own subscription billing.

How to add the rule

  1. From your Shopify admin, open the Mage Loyalty app and click Loyalty.

  2. In the Earning Points section, click Add Earning Rule and choose Subscription Milestone.

  3. Fill in the settings below and click Save.

Setting

What it does

Earning rule name

The name customers see in Ways to Earn, for example "6 month subscriber reward".

Amount to award

What the customer receives when they reach the milestone. VIP tier multipliers and bonus campaigns apply on top.

Subscription renewal threshold

How many successful payments are needed. The first payment counts as 1, so a threshold of 1 rewards the customer as soon as they subscribe.

Approval time

Days to hold the reward as pending. Leave at 0 for instant. A window of 30 days or more gives time for refunds and cancellations.

How it works

  • Every successful payment on a subscription adds one to its count. When the count reaches your threshold, the reward is given.

  • Each subscription is rewarded once. Later payments on the same subscription are tracked but do not award again.

  • Each subscription is counted separately. A customer with two subscriptions can reach the milestone on both.

  • If a customer cancels and later subscribes again, the new subscription starts from zero and can earn the reward again.

  • If a customer cancels before reaching the threshold, nothing is awarded.
